Which motorcycle rally has the best website?
ROT Biker Rally
Nationally known as the Biggest Biker Rally in the Southwest the ROT (Republic Of Texas) Biker Rally is an annual motorcycle event held in Austin, TX every year during the first weekend in June. They have one of the finest motorcycle rally websites on the Internet located at ROTRally.com.
The ROT Rally received well over 30,000 bikers at their 2003 Rally for 3 days of events, concerts, and parties. Another estimated 20,000 Bikers joined in the celebration on Austin's premier nightlife location of 6th Street, taking the party tally up to 50,000 Bikers. Visit the ROT Rally website today to view the large selection of Motorcycle events held at their rally every year.
Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
With the most popular name in motorcycle rallies worldwide, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally needs no introduction. The biker community is well acquainted with this biker rally that draws thousands of bikers to South Dakota each year. They truly put on a first class motorcycle rally.
SturgisMotorcycleRally.com is a good place to find information about the rally, but because of its overwhelming popularity among the biker community, we feel as though the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally deserves a more robust Internet presence.

Initial Impression
|
|
The following review will explain in detail the initial impression that Motorcycle Buzz staff members had of the ROT Biker Rally website as compared to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally website.
ROTRally.com
With more registered motorcycle riders in Texas than any other state in the Union, it shouldn't have surprised us that the ROTRally.com website had more than 1,000 pages of biker pics and motorcycle photographs of they're past rallies. ROTRally.com is highly regarded by Motorcycle Buzz as the premier website for motorcycle events.
Our initial impression of the ROT Rally website was very positive. We instantly understood how big this motorcycle event was and the top-shelf promotion, management and entertainment provided to more than 30,000 bikers from all over the US.
ROTRally.com offers:
- Hundreds of pictures
- Great graphics and color scheme
- Outstanding navigation
- Awesome merchandise at the right price!
- Comprehensive vendor information
- Motorcycle event schedules with details
- Hotel listings with the best prices in Austin
Initial Impression Grade: A +
SturgisMotorcycleRally.com
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally also has a rally website that has some value to offer the biker community. Obviously, this website is built around one of the most famous motorcycle rallies in history and receives visits from bikers based upon that popularity.
However, Motorcycle Buzz does not feel like the website, SturgisMotorcycleRally.com, lives up to the legendary tradition of that great biker rally. We simply feel that the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally deserves a more appealing and user friendly website that can hold the attention of bikers the way ROTRally.com does.
Don’t get us wrong, these are both awesome motorcycle events. It is just obvious that the ROT Biker Rally has a superior website compared to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally website.
SturgisMotorcycleRally.com offers:
- Lots of rally pictures, but they are hard to find
- Lackluster graphics and poor color scheme
- An empty private housing section
- Vendor information that could be easier to find
- An empty visitor’s packet page
- Lodging location phone numbers without price
Initial Impression Grade: B

Search Engine Access
|
|
ROTRally.com
Finding ROTRally.com within almost any search engine was a breeze. We won't talk about their #1 and #2 position for biker rally, but try any other state in the US with "biker rally" within the phrase and chances are, the ROT Rally Website will come up within the top 10.
We also performed broad searches about "texas motorcycle" and still found the ROTRally.com website within the Top 10 positions on Google. Motorcycle Buzz feels like ROTRally.com truly holds commanding positions for all of their relevant search terms.
Search Engine Access Grade: A +
SturgisMotorcycleRally.com
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally does hold top position for their domain name, sturgismotorcyclerally.com and many other prime search engine slots. However, Motorcycle Buzz thought that such a prestigious motorcycle rally would hold a much more dominating market share among the search engines then we actually saw.
One example was that SturgisMotorcycleRally.com was missing on the first page for "Best Motorcycle Rally", while the ROT Rally came in at a cool # 3.
Motorcycle Buzz would have thought the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally could have done a better job of targeting such a "bread and butter" term. They're official website comes in second best when competing with even other Sturgis Websites promoting the same rally.

User Experience
|
|
ROTRally.com
Navigating the enormous amount of data within the website was easy using the many available links. The Home page contained links to almost every section, which provided a great map of interest areas for the website.
One of our most favorite elements while visiting this website was the unbelievable photo gallery which contained more than 600 pictures from their 2002 and 2003 Motorcycle Rallies. Needless to say, it took us around an hour to go through everything.
View more than 600 + biker pics and photographs on their website.
User Experience Grade: A +
SturgisMotorcycleRally.com
Finding your way around the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally website is not the easiest thing in the world to do. The navigation is sparse, and the graphics and colors are not what I was looking for from the most famous motorcycle rally in the world. There are many aspects in which SturgisMotorcycleRally.com could really improve their website.
User friendly is not the word I would use to describe SturgisMotorcycleRally.com. It leaves me wondering what page I should visit next and the web pages do not hold my attention for very long. I do not want to say that the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally website is boring, but it is!

Content Evaluation
|
|
ROTRally.com
You don't have to question the amount of content when a website has more than 1000 different pages of content from text to images. We really liked the sections focusing upon the Events, Lodging, Sponsors and Testimonials. Each section contained countless sections detailing everything you could ask for in a 1st Rate Biker Rally.
The Free Downloadable videos, audio files and photo gallery really attracted our attention. Everything that happened at the rally has been documented within these galleries with intense detail.
The extensive content focusing upon their motorcycle events provided a great view of what this rally has to offer.
Content Evaluation Grade: A +
SturgisMotorcycleRally.com
The content available on SturgisMotorcycleRally.com could definitely be more informative and comprehensive. I see almost no detail about any aspect of their rally. The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is such a great event that I would have thought their website would have been chock-full of information about their rallies, but it was not.
They do offer a large photo gallery, but the pictures are laid out in a confusing format that is clumsy to use and hard to understand. These pictures really do not do the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally justice. I just wish the content on SturgisMotorcycleRally.com had more to offer and was more interesting.

Website Speed
|
|
ROTRally.com
Our need for speed was met with lightning fast page downloads throughout this entire website. When we visited the Vendors section of the website, which details more than 200 vendors and descriptions of what they do, the entire page which requires extensive scrolling (it's long!) popped up faster than many home pages of other websites that we visit.
Bottom line, every page we visited on the ROTRally.com website was supercharged.
Website Speed Grade: A +
SturgisMotorcycleRally.com
Good speed is the one thing that the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally website does have going for it. The pages load fast and you do not have to wait for the graphics to load. Mainly because the graphics are not that large or well designed. The pictures that they do have are well optimized for speedy downloads, so even 56k modem users should have little problem viewing the photos from the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally website is speedy, and I am sure bikers will enjoy the speed. SturgisMotorcycleRally.com is primed and ready to race, I just wish their content could backup their reputation or their website speed.

Evaluation Summary
|
|
ROTRally.com
Overall we really enjoyed the Republic Of Texas Biker Rally website. The site had a great home page and design that provided easy access to all areas of interest. Finding the website was simple due to every search engine in the world convinced that this is the only biker / motorcycle rally website in the world.
Navigating the website was fast and easy. The gross amount of text and pictures left no question unanswered. True to the motorcycle culture, this website delivers a fast experience in terms of page load and more importantly image load time.
MotorcycleBuzz.com has labeled the ROTRally.com website as the Top Dog of Motorcycle Rally Websites. Don't take our word for it, saddle up for yourself and give their website ride at ROTRally.com.
SturgisMotorcycleRally.com
Our overall impression is that the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally website could use some improvements to better attract the attention of bikers. They need more and better graphics, a better photo gallery design, more details about their motorcycle events and web pages that are actually functional and not under construction.
With a few upgrades, SturgisMotorcycleRally.com could become a very desirable website, but as it stands now, it simply does not do the tradition of the famous Sturgis Motorcycle Rally justice. I am sure that they are working hard to improve their website and we hope that they are able to make those changes soon, because the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally deserves a superior website, and it just does not have one right now.
